The old hacking exploits in Orkut
The easiest method to hack Orkut was a Javascript (Also a cookie stealer) . It was a PHP script that was put into work along with a javascript which mainly emailed the cookie to the user.
The other method which is still used is the phishing attack in which a link to a page that looked exactly like orkut was sent and when the victim entered his user name and password there, he would get hacked.
The new methods of hacking Orkut
As time went by methods like cookie stealing became common and the top hackers were used to this, all were in search of a new method to hack accounts in Orkut and they started combining the power of Key Loggers and Anonymous Emailing. Now key loggers, when activated on a victim, can log all the details of the victim such as his passwords, username and it sends it to the hacker.The other method used in Orkut is hacking via feeds, this method is the same except the feed URL would be a file that runs a Javascript Cookie Stealer.

Well a cookie is a large string of data that stores important login details (not password), but details that a server looks for to verify if you have entered the right password and this is the main thing which is used in hacking methods like XSS.
