1. Download AVG Anti-Spyware. This is a good anti-spyware / anti-malware program. As soon as I installed the program, it found WinAntiSpyware. I didn’t even have to do a scan. Using SuperAntiSpyware , I was able to see the infection, but not remove it. I also found tons of other bad stuff that that SuperAntiSpyware didn’t find including Winfixer, Adlogix, WebRebates, 180solutions, SecondThought, Starware, Hotbar, Wintol.. well you uget the point.
2. Update AVG Anti-Spyware. After the AVG installation, a box will appear with the option to update and scan. Update first.
3. Scan system. At the top of the window is a tab which says “Scanner”. Click that and then select “Full System Scan”. Doing this will take between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of files on your computer and it’s speed, so kick up your feet, grab a cup of coffee, and flip on the Cosby Show.. or something.
4. When done select the button that says “ignore once” and change to “delete on reboot”.
5. Reboot.
6. If it is still there, we get to go a bit deeper. Download Hijack This. Run and Save Log. If you don’t know what all of this is, be careful! Delete only things that are related to WinAntiSpyware. Deleting the wrong thing can render your computer unusable! If you are not comfortable using this program, there are many hijack this forums available where you can post the log and get help.
7. Reboot and viola!
Remove WinAntiSpyware and other Spyware and Adwares.
